Micropake medical fibre

Micropake® is an X-ray detectable yarn that meets European Standards for radiopacity, combined with the unique ability to be woven into surgical gauze which requires a thread to be more flexible.

It is a European market leader and is used worldwide in the manufacture of X-ray detectable gauze swabs and sponges, using both woven and non-woven fabrics.

Melt spun from polypropylene and loaded with 60% barium sulphate, Micropake meets the X-ray opacity requirements of both the British and French Pharmacopoeias.

Key advantages include:

  • Good radiopacity
  • High strength and flexibility allowing it to be woven
  • Meets toxicological standards - ISO 10993
  • Can be sterilised
  • Current colours blue and black - other colours can be made available upon request

A routine X-ray can easily detect the barium sulphate within the multifilament yarn which runs through the swab.
